Have you ever noticed how we can become blind to the familiar? Sitting on my couch, I realized I'd been staring through a dirty window for months without really seeing it. Do we do this in our spiritual lives too? In our physical bodies? How easily we can overlook, and settle for the things that cloud our heart’s vision.

Just as dust and grime accumulate on a window pane over time, so too can spiritual "dirt" build up in our lives. It's rarely a sudden change; instead, it's a gradual process that we might not even notice. Perhaps it's a small compromise here, a skipped devotional there, or a slowly developing habit that doesn't align with God's will.

The problem with a dirty window isn't just that it's unsightly – it actually hinders our view. In the same way, the build-up of spiritual clutter in our lives can prevent us from seeing God's beauty and truth clearly. We might find ourselves wondering why our faith doesn't feel as vibrant as it once did, unaware that our own neglect has clouded our spiritual vision.

God is so faithful and kind. He won’t let us just sit infront of a  often provides us with moments of clarity in our spiritual lives. It might come through a convicting sermon, an iron sharpening conversation with a friend, a worship song, or a quiet moment of reflection. These are opportunities through the Holy Spirit to work within us and help illuminate the build up of dirt and residue.

Cleaning a long-neglected window takes effort, and so does addressing the issues that cloud our spiritual vision, our physical bodies and our thought patterns. It requires honesty, humility, and a willingness to do the hard work of examining our hearts and habits.
Just as a clean window lets in more light and provides a clearer view, clearing away obstacles allows God's light to shine more brightly in our lives.

Once the window is clean, regular maintenance keeps it that way. Similarly, cultivating daily habits of prayer, Bible study, and self-reflection can help us maintain spiritual clarity. We need to stay vigilant, regularly "checking our windows" to ensure nothing is obscuring our view of God's truth and beauty.

With clean windows, we can fully appreciate the view beyond. Clearing away hindrances allows us to see God more clearly, understand His Word more deeply, and experience His presence more fully. It's a reminder that the effort to maintain spiritual clarity is always worthwhile.

As you go about your day, I encourage you to take a moment to "check your windows."

What might be clouding your spiritual vision?
What is blocking you physically?
What is emotionally building up within you?
Now, what steps can you take to clear it away?

"Remember, God desires for us to see Him clearly, and He's always ready to help us in the cleaning process.

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16 ESV
